Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 pa depending on experience level

Location: Reading, Berkshire

Start date: ASAP

Reports to: Head of DevOps


The DevOps Engineer will be based at my clients UK Headquarters in the heart of Reading, liasing with colleagues in the United States.

The successful candidate will work on the design (where necessary) and build a highly available and fault tolerant cloud environment, to further automate and improve my clients cloud server environment.

The role entails working closely with other team members to understand my client's platform and to provide support to internal and external customers.

Required Skills:

  • AWS Certified Engineer (DevOps, SysOps) or 3 - 5 years solid AWS experience
  • Strong knowledge configuration management skill (Ansible preferred)
  • Hands-on experience on AWS or Google Cloud Products
  • CI/CD using Jenkins
  • Version Control (Git preferred)
  • Python, Bash
  • Linux System Admin skills (RED HAT, Centos or AWS Linux)
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP
  • Understanding of computer and network security
  • Troubleshooting and issue resolution
  • Adhering to incident and change management procedures
  • Databases (Postgres preferred)
  • Web servers (NIGINX or HAProxy preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years working in a Linux-based environment
  • Minimum of 3 years DevOps experience in a cloud-based SaaS company

Additional skills (desirable):

  • Load balancing
  • DNS
  • Terraform
  • Perl

Responsibilities include:

  • Deploy my client's software platform following existing guidelines
  • Take part and contribute to team discussions
  • Help in the planning and migration of my client's platform to cloud
  • Automate current deployment process and reduce onboarding time
  • To understand existing procedures and automate them where necessary
  • Automate routine tasks using Ansible, Bash, Python or Perl
  • Create automation scripts, playbook
  • Identify security issue and recommend solutions
  • To support the software development teams in resolving issues within the environment
  • To support the company's internal LAN
  • To monitor the cloud environment using Zabbix and other cloud monitoring tools
  • To process access request
  • Adhering to incident and change management procedures
  • Understand and apply the internal DevOps procedure as well as company processes
  • To document work carried out
