DevOps Engineer - Reading, Berkshire

Reports to: Head of Development

Operations Department: Engineering

Location: Reading, Berkshire

Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 pa depending on experience


My client, one of the market leaders in POS Data Analytics is looking for a seasoned DevOps Engineer who can:

- Help design (where necessary) and build a highly available and fault tolerant cloud environment

- Automate and improve their cloud server environment

- Work with team members and other colleagues to understand the company platform and to provide support to internal and external customers


  • Linux System Admin skills (RED HAT, Centos or AWS Linux)
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP
  • Understanding of computer and network security
  • Hands-on experience on AWS or Google Cloud Products (GCP)
  • Strong knowledge configuration management skill (Ansible preferred)
  • Version Control (Git preferred)
  • Knowledge of Database Management System (Postgres preferred)
  • Knowledge of Web server (NGINX preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years working in a Linux-based environment
  • Minimum of 3 years DevOps experience in a cloud-based SaaS company
  • Strong Python and Bash skills
  • AWS (S3, EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, CloudFront, AIM, CloudFormation, AIM, VPC, Security policies, RDS, Route53, Elastic Load Balancer, SQS, CloudWatch etc.)
  • ElasticSearch, Logtash and Kibana (ELK)
  • WildFlyF (formerly JBOS)
  • IP subnets and internetworking (IP ranges, CIDR)
  • Zabbix
  • Terraform
  • DNS
  • CI/CD using Jenkins
  • Troubleshooting and issue resolution
  • Docker and Kubernetes
  • Micro services


Responsibilities include:

  • Deploy the companies software platform following existing guidelines
  • Take part and contribute to team discussions
  • Help in the planning and migration of the company's platform to cloud (AWS and Google)
  • Automate current deployment process and reduce onboarding time
  • To understand existing procedures and automate them where necessary
  • Automate routine tasks using Ansible, Bash, Python or Perl
  • Create automation scripts, playbook
  • Identify security issue and recommend solutions
  • To support the software development teams in resolving issues within the environment
  • To support the company's internal LAN
  • To monitor the cloud environment using Zabbix and other cloud monitoring tools
  • To process access request's
  • Adhering to incident and change management procedures
  • Understand and apply the internal DevOps procedure as well as the company's processes
  • To document work carried out
  • Provide desktop support to employees


  • BSc or MSc in Computer related field
  • AWS Certified Engineer (DevOps, SysOps) or Google Cloud Architect (GCP certification)
