Functional Lead - Software Engineering - London - to £90k + Bens

My client is a hugely respected consumer brand and household name. Their London team is growing and this is a key position within the Engineering team.

As the Functional Lead within Software Engineering you will be a Senior manager of the engineering function and wider technology leadership team. Working with product based teams you will be responsible for creating high performing teams, identifying development opportunities, promoting an environment of trust and responsibility, and helping teams remain aligned with the business within a highly empowered, agile and innovative environment.

Building high-performing teams - Timely resourcing and creation of new teams to meet the growing needs of the business in developing new product verticals. Establishing a strong relationship with the Makers Academy code school, to build a development pool of junior talent to support teams. Supporting the creation and development of a relationship with a Near-Shoring and Agency partners, to provide burst-capacity on product work streams.

Development of a framework for engineering career progression - Creating a career framework that addresses the need of the entire engineering community - Identifying key skills and behaviours that support the businesses roadmap - Cultivating a culture of mentoring and coaching to support the learning needs of the engineering community

Establishing operational excellence across the software function - Along with other leads of function, establishing a measurement tool for tracking software product maturity and quality - Conducting regular workshops with teams on Technical Principles of the business.

Ensuring all staff have the relevant learning resources to meet quality and security standards.

Helping to establish a strong technical brand - Fostering a community of Open Source contributors via a model of internal Inner Sourcing - Helping to arrange internal conferences and meet-ups

You will specialise in leading technical teams on delivery, whilst also building a culture of quality engineering. You will be passionate about technology and enjoy the thrill of the impossible challenge.
